The Ministry of Tourism and Youth of Serbia endorses the "Bike Friendly" label, supporting sustainable tourism, reducing emissions, improving public health, and enhancing local economies through cycling tourism managed by "PR Veselinov Tourism Consulting."

Belgrade, Serbia – The Ministry of Tourism and Youth proudly announced its official support for the “Bike Friendly” label, a significant initiative spearheaded by NATTOUR and managed locally by “Veselinov Tourism Consulting.” This endorsement underscores the Ministry’s commitment to sustainable tourism and its strategic role in fostering environmentally conscious travel options.

The “Bike Friendly” project, diligently executed by “Veselinov Tourism Consulting,” aligns seamlessly with the Ministry’s vision for sustainable development. This initiative promises to contribute positively in several critical areas, including:

  • Reduction of Carbon Emissions: Encouraging cycling tourism helps in decreasing carbon dioxide emissions, promoting cleaner air and a healthier environment.
  • Improvement of Public Health: By fostering a culture of cycling, the project aims to enhance public health through increased physical activity.
  • Reduction of Traffic Congestion: More cyclists mean fewer cars on the road, easing traffic congestion and contributing to a more efficient transportation system.
  • Enhanced Road Safety: Dedicated cycling paths and infrastructure improve safety for both cyclists and motorists.
  • Economic Benefits: The project supports local economies by attracting cycling tourists, who contribute to various sectors including hospitality, retail, and services.

The Ministry’s review of the criteria for tourist destinations and hotels to achieve the “Bike Friendly” certification indicates a strong alignment with current tourist demands. Implementing these criteria is expected to significantly enhance visitor satisfaction and cater to the growing segment of cycling tourists.

A standout feature of the “Bike Friendly” project is its ability to network various stakeholders at the local level. This collaborative approach is rooted in the principles of sustainable tourism development as outlined by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) criteria, to which Serbia is a committed member.

Given these substantial benefits, the “Bike Friendly” project is poised to play a crucial role in the advancement of Serbian tourism. It caters to both domestic and international tourists, aligning with their preferences and demands. In recognition of its potential and alignment with national tourism goals, the Ministry of Tourism and Youth extends its full institutional support to the project. This includes granting permission for the use of the Ministry’s logo on the “Bike Friendly” platform and promotional materials, further solidifying this partnership.
